A fashion and culture enthusiast who's really a food loving…
World Environment Day (WED) is an international observance commemorated every year on June 5th since 1974 and it is the most renowned day for environmental action.
This is a day that governments are engaged as businesses, celebrities, and citizens are reminded to focus their efforts on a pressing environmental issue. World Environment Day is said to be the biggest annual event organized by the United Nations and for 2020, the theme is “Celebrate Biodiversity.”
“Biodiversity is the foundation that supports all life forms. It affects every aspect of human health…”
To care for humanity, we must care for nature.
— António Guterres (@antonioguterres) June 5, 2020
As we work to build back better, let’s put nature where it belongs – at the heart of our decision making.

To celebrate the day, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres took to Twitter to reiterate the importance of caring for humanity and for nature. According to the United Nations, biodiversity is the foundation that supports all life forms. It affects every aspect of human health, providing clean air and water, nutritious foods, scientific understanding and medicine sources, natural disease resistance, and climate change mitigation. Changing, or removing one element of this web affects the entire life system and can produce negative consequences.
Human actions, including deforestation, encroachment on wildlife habitats, intensified agriculture, and acceleration of climate change, have pushed nature beyond its limit. It would take 1.6 Earths to meet the demands that humans make of nature each year. If we continue on this path, biodiversity loss will have severe implications for humanity, including the collapse of food and health systems.
With everything that’s going on in the world, now is the time to start appreciating the benefits that nature provides. We need to start taking necessary actions to protect and restore our natural world.
For us, we couldn’t think of a way to virtually celebrate our environment than with these fabulous images.
