New York Times best-selling author, Project Runway judge, and former Editor in Chief of Teen Vogue, Elaine Welteroth, and her now-husband, musician Jonathan Singletary tied the knot by throwing a virtual block party on the stoop of their Brooklyn home on May 10, 2020. It was simply beautiful and is the most beautiful thing you’ll see today.
The couple officially joined the trend of couples who stream their beautiful moments to their loved ones via Zoom.
Elaine wore a beautiful gown featuring a lace embroidered top with spaghetti straps and a floor-length pleated skirt. The label-less dress she chose is one that she already had in her closet and decided to recycle in the spirit of celebrating her big day. She finished off her look with her mother’s veil, a pair of custom shoes from Aurora James of Brother Vellies, and did her own hair and makeup, with a little virtual help from her longtime friend––professional hairstylist aka her ‘hair husband’, Vernon François.
On the other hand, the groom wore a white vintage blazer he borrowed from a friend, along with white linen pants with a fresh pair of white sneakers.
Officiating via Zoom was Dr. Stanley Long, the founding pastor of South Bay Community Church, the couple’s home church in California. The couple went the extra mile to invite their neighbors to also join on the stoop of their own homes and enjoy the party as well. The wedding, which was an all white affair, had 200 family and friends join virtually via Zoom.
Amongst the wedding guests who were able to physically attend was Lupita Nyong’o and the couple made sure to create a social distancing standing chart with guests’ names on the sidewalk in chalk to ensure everyone kept their distance.
The guests were also provided with gloves and masks on-site in addition to white parasols, bubbles, seeds to plant flowers, and homemade brownies from Elaine’s mom’s family recipe in a gift bag. The photos are some of the happiest images we have seen since the pandemic broke.
