As a beginner, it is almost impossible not to smear your winged eyeliner and/or make uneven lines but with practice comes perfection.

What do you need to draw winged eyeliner?
- A makeup brush
- Eyeshadow
- Eyeliner
- Mascara
- False lashes (optional)
- A mirror
- Proper lighting
#1. Prime with shadow
Apply a neutral or light eyeshadow from your lash line up to your crease. Choose from a neutral or nude eyeshadow that matches your skin tone to prevent the cat eye from looking overdone. It also serves as a primer so the eyeliner doesn’t smear easily.
#2. Get the wing
This step helps for uniformity of both eyes; hold a slim brush with the bottom facing upwards towards the eyes and the brush area on your nose. Position the brush from your nose to the edge of your outer brow while pointing to the end of your eyebrow. Draw a short line or dot extending from the corner of your eye up towards your brow. Clean up any mistakes before the eyeliner dries up, making it set.
#3. Connect the dot
Draw another line connecting the dot to the middle of your upper lash line. There are no hard and fast rules about the thickness of the line, it’s dependent on the look you hope to achieve. Gently pull your eyeliner from the corner of your eye to the middle of your lid.
#4. Fill in
If there’s any area underneath the line where the eyeshadow is still visible, grab your eyeliner and fill in those areas. You may not need to fill in anything if you didn’t make it thick.
#5. Draw out the wing
To draw a connecting line, slowly pull the eyeliner from the inner corner of your eyes to merge with the ready cat-eye, and continue across your eye until you reach the outer corner of your eyelid to make it look even. As you approach the outer corner of your eyelid, thicken the line. It is finer to behold when it’s done in a single, smooth way and not in various shaky lines.
#6. Lash up
Apply a couple of coats of mascara or false lashes for that edgy finished look and you’re good to go. Meow!!!
Bonus tips…
- Ditch the pencil liner and go for a liquid eyeliner. Using the pencil would need extra layering to achieve that dark look and the extra lines may look wiggly.
- If you’re still a beginner and liquid eyeliners are a bit too much for you, felt-tip eyeliners would do just fine.
- Don’t use cream/liquid eyeshadows for priming.
- To create this look without hindrances, clip your hair backward to avoid stray hairs from making a mess of your hard work.
- Invest in a good makeup mirror.
