Colours have always been a means of expression for Africans. They’ve been in our cultures and sub-cultures for as long as history can tell. From the traditional beads worn by indigenous people to the local dye extracted from plants, Africans have always found one way or the other to include colours in every aspect of our cultures, fashion included. Which explains why African men are amongst the most adventurous in the world when it comes to colourful style.
Last week, men in the African fashion and entertainment scene served a variance of colours in style, comfort and finesse. Fashion has no place without colour and its spectrum and African male celebrities, have made it their duty to help other men rethink their views on colourful style by simply embracing vibrant and bold hues typically shied away from by the average sub-Saharan African man, and there’s been a notable change in this regard compared to 10 years ago.
Starting with what Nigerian media personality, Denola Grey wore to the 2019 Headies Awards; a champagne gold floral jacket paired with a pair of burnt orange pants and accessorized with statement gold rings and necklace. He sealed the look with a pair of brown fringe loafers. Orange seemed to be the order of the week as Tanzanian singers Juma Jux and Diamond Platnumz both incorporated orange into their casual and bold looks.
South African singer, Riky Rick stepped up to luxury fashion wearing head to toe Louis Vuitton and looking like a sexy, badass gangsta. Want to see how other African men embraced colors and served dapper goodness last week?
