If you missed the 2019 BET Awards which held last night, you’re in luck as we’ve compiled a complete list of nominees and eventual winners in every category. But first, we highlight our top five moments of the night.
1. Cardi B’s “Clout” and “Press” Performance
Cardi B wowed the audience as she opened the BET Awards with a performance of her latest music “Clout” and “Press.” She even managed to further stun the crowd when she got up close and personal with her husband Offset on stage. Yep, we’ll keep talking about that for a while.
2. Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus
The audience was transported to “Old Town Road” when Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus took to the stage on horsebacks to perform their hit song. Old Town Road has spent the last 11 weeks as number one on Billboard’s Hot 100.
3. Mary J. Blige raised the roof
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul literally owned the stage for nearly 20 minutes as she performed many of her biggest hits including My Life, Real Love, No More Drama and others. She was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
4. Standing ovation for The Exonerated Central Park Five
Raymond Santana Jr., Yusef Salaam, Anton McCray, Korey Wise and Kevin Richardson, The Exonerated Five formerly known as Central Park Five who were wrongly convicted of raping a jogger in New York City when they were teenagers, got the audience on their feet in celebration of their freedom.
5. Tyler Perry shows why he is the ultimate icon
Tyler Perry was honoured with the Ultimate Icon Award. He moved the audience with his speech when he revealed how happy he was to have been able to be there to help the likes of Taraji P. Henson, Idris Elba and Viola Davis. He also opened up about the land he bought in Atlanta where his studio stands.
