People all over the world are united in protests for different causes. From #GeorgeFloyd, #BlackLivesMatter, #JusticeForTina, #SayNoToRape, to #JusticeForUwa and more. With respect to that, dozens of Facebook employees, in rare public criticism on Monday of their own company, protested executives’ decision not to do anything about inflammatory posts that President Trump had placed on the giant social media platform over the last week.
The employees who are working from home took a virtual ‘walkout’ by taking the day off and requesting time off to support protesters across the US. They also added an automated message to their emails saying that they were out of the office in a show of protest. The staff members had earlier circulated petitions and threatened to resign as they have described the unrest as the most serious challenge to Mr Zuckerberg’s leadership since the company was founded 15 years ago.

Nigerian born singer, Wizkid tweeted his opinions saying that the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is clueless on the issues bothering the country. In a series of tweets posted on his Twitter page on Monday, June 1, 2020, the music star compared Buhari to the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

Wizkid’s tweet towards President Buhari was clearly directed towards the government’s response to the injustices faced both in Nigeria and the US.
2. Ghana: Schools and universities to reopen for final year students
From Monday, June 15, 2020, schools and universities are to be re-opened for final year students as part of a revised measure for fighting the deadly coronavirus disease in Ghana. The decision was taken in consultation with teacher unions whose cooperation according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was something he salutes.
“Indeed, final year university students are to report to their universities on 15th June, final year senior high school (SHS 3) students together with SHS 2 gold track students on 22nd June and final-year junior high school (JHS 3) students on 29th June,” President Akufo-Addo said in a televised address on Sunday night, May 31, 2020.
3. South Africa partly lifts coronavirus lockdown to revive the economy
South Africa partly lifted a two-month-old coronavirus lockdown on Monday, letting people outside for work, worship, exercise or shopping, and allowing mines and factories to run at full capacity to try to revive the economy.
The measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus have battered the economy of Africa’s most industrialised nation, which was already in recession before the virus, owing mostly to power cuts by its dysfunctional state provider, Eskom.
The government hopes Monday’s move to a level 3 lockdown will stir businesses to a start. It will inevitably increase the number of coronavirus infections, which over the weekend jumped past 30,000.
4. Police targeted journalists covering the George Floyd protests in the US
On Friday night, photojournalist Linda Tirado was shot in the eye with a rubber bullet while covering an anti-police brutality protest in Minneapolis. This is one of more than two dozen incidents of journalists experiencing violence while covering the recent demonstrations.

Across the country, journalists have been targeted by police, facing arrest, detention, and violence, including being pepper-sprayed and shot with rubber bullets.
5. Manchester United confirm Odion Ighalo’s loan extension
Manchester United have extended Odion Ighalo’s loan until the end of January 2021. The club confirmed this on Twitter on Monday. Before the formal announcement of his contract extension, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had hinted that the club would retain the goalscorer.
Solskjaer said, “They (Shanghai Shenhua) have been great towards us, allowing him to play for his dream club. It’s been a dream for him and hopefully, he can finish what he started and win a trophy with us.”
Ighalo’s current deal at Shenhua runs out in December 2022. He was earlier asked to sign a contract offer until the end of 2024 worth £400,000 a week, but the player prefers to stay at Manchester United despite taking a pay cut. Wizkid Buhari
