Ciara Gets Delicate and Personal on New Album ‘Beauty Marks’

It has been over 15 years since Ciara broke into the music scene and the release of her seventh studio album ‘Beauty Marks‘ just reminded us that she is as much a great singer as she was then. Beauty Marks displays enough range to express her abiding appeal since her breakout days.

The theme of Beauty Marks is credence as Ciara swung between being delicate and personal on the title track to being assertive and commanding on songs like ‘Level Up‘ and ‘Dose‘. This only shows that even though the scope and perspective of her songs have changed, her energy has not. Beauty Marks perfectly balances what fans have come to expect and what no-one expected.

The album opens with ‘Love Myself’, a gentle and self-empowering song about leaving no space for drama. She affirms how self-worth and self-acceptance are very important with relevant lyrical grounds. She made sure her message was very clear on the song.

Although other artists like Lizzo have sung about women empowerment, Ciara’s Beauty Marks shows an admirable amount of range throughout the album.

Thinking ’bout you’ is a heavy pop song. On it, she delivers her very funky persona and a very soothing vibe. On ‘Girl Gang‘, she got the help of Kelly Rowland to deliver a worthy girl power bop while the electro-R&B sound of ‘Greatest Love‘ switched things up and changed the whole vibe to a smooth glistening sound.

Freak Me‘ started off with a very familiar sound but quickly switched up to an Afrobeats tempo with the help of Nigerian artiste, Tekno.

The album concluded with the sweet piano ballad ‘Beauty Marks‘. With the concluding track, it’s easy to say Ciara has done so well in praising herself and other women. This is the Ciara the world deserves.
