Ankara print isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. From talented African designers applying it to everything from workwear to puffers to boots, to African celebrities wearing it at international events, Ankara is the new cool and deservingly so. And talking about celebrities, South African actress, Nomzamo Mbatha recently posed in an Ankara suit that had us literally screaming: Rave-worthy!
The actress and UNHCR Goodwill ambassador is doing big things per usual and getting recognized all over the world. She was recently honoured by New York State Senator Kevin Parker for her work in youth development as well as her advocacy for the plight of refugees. If that wasn’t exciting enough, this past Saturday, she was also honoured at the 2019 FACE Africa WASH Gala in New York, where she was presented with the Rising Star Award. She shared her moments on Instagram with the caption:
“Last night I not only received the Rising Star Award from Face Africa but I also received the Legislative Resolution from the New York State Senator Kevin Parker in recognition of my work with Youth Development in KZN, my foundation The LightHouse that assists young people suffering from Depression, Anxiety and Suicide as well as my advocacy in highlighting the plight of our displaced brothers and sisters who are refugees.
Thank you @sarankjones for inspiring so many of us to do more for our continent, to the #[email protected] committee, we never do the work that we do for recognition but I THANK YOU DEEPLY for acknowledging my small efforts. To my big sister @wifeofmro from the very first day that we met and @khanyidhlomo brought you into my life, we have been inseparable and you have truly been a necessary light that continues to give my heart JOY! Thank you for everything. ?❤️??”
We are of course excited for her wins but are just as captivated by her recent Ankara looks. In words, deed and style, Nomzamo Mbatha is always representing the motherland. Accepting her FACE Africa award, she wore a gorgeous Ankara dress and looked like a true African queen. She shared her second Ankara look – a Queen E Collection exclusive suit that had her looking vibrant and absolutely splendid.
Pairing the two-piece set with a pair of nude Louboutins – the Pigalle Follies patent leather pumps – and a matching yellow clutch, we were reminded why Nomzamo has been certified a style star many times over. African actress Nomzamo Mbatha.
