1. Travis Scott arrested in Miami on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing

Popular rapper Travis Scott, known legally as Jacques Bermon Webster II, was arrested in Miami early Thursday morning. According to jail records, Scott was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center around 4:35 AM. The 33-year-old faces charges of trespassing after a warning and disorderly intoxication.

Reports indicate he was released later that morning after posting a $650 bond. Details surrounding the arrest remain unclear, and authorities haven’t released an official report. News outlets are seeking more information on the circumstances leading to Scott’s apprehension.

2. Wizkid squashes beef rumors, calls Don Jazzy “amazing human.”

Nigerian superstar Wizkid has shut down speculation of a rift with Mavin boss Don Jazzy, referring to him as an “amazing human” in a recent tweet. This comes after online chatter swirled following Wizkid’s comment that “hip hop was dead,” which sparked reactions from some Nigerian rappers. The situation escalated when Wizkid’s reply to a fan mentioning a comment by Mavin Records artist Ladipoe was perceived as a disrespectful jab at Don Jazzy.

However, it appears all is well between the music giants. Wizkid’s tweet praising Don Jazzy puts the rumors to rest, and interestingly, Don Jazzy even thanked Wizkid publicly for promoting the new album by Mavin signee Ayra Starr. Ladipoe has also chimed in, clarifying that his comments were not intended as a diss towards Wizkid.

3. South Africa: Shebeshxt out of ICU after tragic accident, daughter’s funeral preparations underway

South African rapper Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, has been moved out of intensive care after a car accident that tragically claimed the life of his young daughter, Onthatile. The “Ambulance” hitmaker was on his way to a concert on June 9 when the accident occurred. He sustained serious injuries, including a broken leg, and required surgery. His partner, Kholofelo Moloto, also suffered injuries in the crash.

Arrangements are currently underway for Onthatile’s funeral, which will be held on Saturday in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo. “Shebeshxt is still in the hospital but he will attend the funeral,” said family spokesperson James Magoro. “We are working with the hospital to ensure he can be brought to the funeral and then safely returned to continue his recovery.” The cause of the accident is still under investigation, with police reportedly looking into Shebeshxt’s sobriety at the time of the crash.

4. Drake sets record for 100 billion streams on Spotify

Canadian rapper Drake has cemented his position as a global music powerhouse by achieving a historic feat on Spotify. On June 18, Drake became the undisputed king of streaming, surpassing a staggering 100 billion total streams across the platform. This record-breaking milestone includes both his solo work and collaborations, solidifying his dominance in the streaming era.

Chart Data, a music data and tracking platform, announced the news, highlighting that Drake has more than doubled the streams of his nearest competitor, rapper Eminem. Some of Drake’s most streamed tracks on Spotify include “One Dance” (3.1 billion streams), “God’s Plan” (2.5 billion streams), and “Passion Fruit” (1.6 billion streams). This accomplishment comes just two months after reports surfaced of Drake nearing the 97 billion stream mark.

5. France shows off Kylian Mbappe’s new custom mask to protect broken nose as Real Madrid superstar returns to action at Euro 2024

French football fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Kylian Mbappe sported a new custom mask during training on Thursday. The Real Madrid forward suffered a broken nose in the team’s opening Euro 2024 win over Austria, raising concerns about his participation in the rest of the tournament. The French Football Federation (FFF) previously confirmed Mbappe wouldn’t require surgery but would need a protective mask to return to action. This high-tech solution, as depicted by the French team, gives hope that the star striker will be ready for France’s crucial match against the Netherlands on Friday.

While the exact details of Mbappe’s mask haven’t been revealed, it appears lightweight and constructed to allow for maximum visibility and movement. This will be key for Mbappe’s explosive playing style, which relies heavily on his pace and agility. Didier Deschamps, the French coach, remained cautious after the Austria match, but Mbappe’s return to training is a positive sign. The goal-scoring machine’s presence would be a major boost for Les Bleus’ chances of achieving Euro 2024 glory.
