A fashion and culture enthusiast who's really a food loving…
Nigerian womenswear brand Hse of Nwocha – HON – has released her full Spring / Summer 2018 ready to wear collection which was showcased at ARISE Fashion Week Lagos earlier this year. The collection tagged TATA, was inspired by theatre and arts as the brand’s creative director, Ugonna Omeruo has a love for film and costume design which continues to drive her creative process.
The TATA collection is set in 1980s’ Colombia and is named after the wife of the Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar. The collection is inspired by a tale of love, romance, feminine strength, eternal loyalty and Catholicism. It plays on the beliefs that where there is fragmentation, there is growth; in the face of uncertainty, often times we find strength and confidence.
The Hse of Nwocha woman’s strength and confidence is paramount to her outward appearance hence the modern yet classic silhouettes. To add to the beauty and romanticism of the collection, the designs were paired with stunning handmade floral headpieces. Through the sassy uneven hems, voluminous peasant sleeves, form-fitting and show of skin, feminine strength is promoted throughout the collection.
60% of the collection was handmade and the focus was to create a visual but subtle experience of luxurious apparel that looks and feels personalised for the consumer. This collection personifies the strength of nude earth tones with a touch of red. Pops of primary colours like blue, red and yellow are also seen in luxe fabrics including French lace, mesh lace, neoprene and organza.
HON is definitively a lifestyle brand created for all. It is a line that is sexy and intricate. Powerful and impeccable. The long-term vision is to create modern classic apparel that is luxurious, trendy and practical and are also available for styling and editorial pull.
