Tracy Nwapa, Toke Makinwa, Chioma Ikokwu And Other Celebrities Show Fresh Ways To Style Skirts

A passionate writer, self proclaimed chef and lover of music…
It’s pretty common knowledge that celebrities have a lot of influence on our fashion. Their style takes are often adopted by their fans – from the ones who are over the top with their looks to the ones who can pull off the weirdest pieces to the ones who have the coolest take on fashion – no matter how random, we learn a thing or two from celebrity styles. Which brings our focus to skirts! Somehow even with the simple fact that the skirt is a daily staple for many women, its presence in fashion is almost always overshadowed. We’ve noticed that recently skirts are coming back and in pretty cool ways thanks to how popular they have become among celebrities.
Again, one of the things we’ve learnt is that skirts are almost always under-represented and styling options for it is limited and outdated. Since the ankle length A-line skirt that took over main street fashion in 2015 and late 2016, we’ve only seen one other skirt style – the calve length pleat – top the fashion trend chat recently. So how you style your old or new skirts is what will bring the fire to your skirt-focused look. To help you slay, we’ve selected fresh skirt styling ideas from some of your favourite celebrities and fashionistas. Take a look at how the likes of Toke Makinwa, Tracy Nwapa, Chioma Ikokwu and Ini Dima-Okojie took their skirt game to the next level…
Toke Makinwa’s style is a little chic and a little sporty, with the retro front-slit jeans skirt paired with a slogan tee-shirt and sneakers.

Stephanie Coker pays homage to Sade as she rocks a tee-shirt with her image paired with a black thigh high skirt and white sneakers.

Ini Dima-Okojie’s look is more youthful and girly. Spotting a playful micro-mini skirt which she pairs with a floral top and sneakers.

Bolanle’s combination has to be the most carefree look on here; the TV girl matches her wine skater skirt with a front-tie Ankara top and flats.

Chioma Ikokwu’s look is ultra classy and timeless, spotting the already vintage metallic pleat skirt over a buttoned-up crisp white shirt complete with a Gucci bag, silk scarf, shoes and cool sunnies.

Tracy Nwapa’s feature on this post is a double serving: the first, a combination of a calve length fitted-flare skirt with a tee-shirt is simply casual chic at its finest. The second, a combination of an artsy structured skirt with an off-shoulder cropped blouse is as fashion-forward as you can be in a skirt-blouse combo.
