It’s been a great year for Colombia-born Johanna Ortiz as she explained to WWD over the phone: “When you’re expecting something to receive in June or the end of May, you want to wear it immediately. You don’t want to wait two or three months to wear it.”
The eponymous-titled brand staged its first Resort show in New York during the summer and is now marking yet another milestone with a Pre-Fall Collection which comes just as the brand marks its 15th birthday.
For this collection, the designer creatively offered daytime pieces that reflect the masterful way in which the brand has been offering feminine frocks over the last decade.
Coloured in dusky shades of green, blue and earth tones, the collection features styles that include summery shirts and dresses with a soulful vintage vibe to each piece. Indigenous symbols are also noted all over the eye-catching collection; however, designer Johanna did go out of her comfort zone with the use of animal motifs instead of her typical aesthetics which focus mainly on exotic floral print.
You could say that as Johanna Ortiz is taking new steps, she didn’t forget her roots while infusing a lot of western inspired details and smart tailoring into the collection.
