“We are attracted to things that are dangerous. We can’t stay away from it.” A quote from Raf Simons, creative director of Calvin Klein as he talked about his ready-to-wear SS19 collection. Influenced a little by the movie, “Jaw and The Graduate,” it is clear to see that Raf transported the sentiments surrounding the films into his lineup.
The collection was to a degree uncomplicated however it was fascinating how well these inspirations were transformed into interesting combinations. What is also very obvious about the fabrication is the composition of the collection; chain hooks, mini-dresses, latex, trendy over-sized wool coats, knitted sweaters, pleats, and sweatshirts, all of which were unassuming and functional for the everyday woman once you take away the unusual styling.
“It’s a certain kind of attraction to whatever’s happening around us, which I want to see if I can turn around again,” Raf said as he explained his vision of using the beauty around to form his collection. The composition of the pieces was true to the nature and vision of the designer.
Here’s a look at what Calvin Klein had to offer as the brand debuted its SS19 pieces…
