Nigerian Singer Falana Tells A Story Of Love and Longing With Her Latest Single ‘Ride or Die’ | SR Review

After a stunning performance at the just concluded Lagos Fashion Week where she closed the Orange Culture’s SS19 presentation – which was easily one of the highlights of the Fashion Week – the uniquely stylish and talented singer, Falana has us once again in awe with her recently released single ‘Ride or Die.’
Much like her style, her sound nostalgically reflects various facets of her identities. It shows off her Nigerian roots by being reminiscent of the Nigerian king of juju music, King Sunny Ade without denying her contemporary influences but most importantly keeping several elements that are uniquely hers.
The Afro Pop masterpiece is undeniably sonically pleasing with Falana’s simple but powerful vocals gliding over an intrinsic guitar. But beyond the beautiful sound which immediately hooks one in is the message behind Ride or Die that makes it the faultless song that it is. In the words of Falana herself;
“Ride or die is a song about a desire for intimacy and sometimes our fear or inability to welcome it into our lives. We isolate ourselves despite attempts by even the sincerest and truest of loves.”
The self-aware song explores love and longing in a way few songs have dared to and is undeniably refreshing and without a doubt worth a good listen!
