In the early 2000s, the now 38-year-old was always with the rest of her Destiny’s Child bandmates, but even then Beyoncé always stood out wherever the group showed up. Now a veteran of the red carpet, her style risks reflect a heightened awareness of what works for her curves and brand as a whole.
Beyoncé is as beautiful and talented as she is iconic. A trailblazer of many firsts, in 2018, she made history by becoming the first black woman to headline Coachella. That performance or should we say, series of performances, would end up as one of the best of her entire career till date.
Also in 2018, she made history with her cover feature on the coveted Vogue September Issue. Thanks to her influence, she was photographed by the first-ever African-American photographer, Tyler Mitchell, to shoot a cover in the magazine’s 125-year history.
The image of her wearing the sequin-covered Valentino dress with the gold Philip Treacy headpiece is now part of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection. Another great moment for black creatives to be inspired by.

As Beyoncé became a solo star, she began to show a preference for looks — both on and off the stage — that reflect her inner power and influential aura.
