At the young age of 19, Derin Fabikun had set a goal she was ready to conquer. She began her clothing line that year in 2009 and has never looked back since. As most fashion designers would attest to, designing has always been something fun to do, a hobby of sorts and for Derin, this rings true. Her passion for fashion had always been evident since according to her, she used to make outfits for herself after which she graduated to making tunics for her family, friends and of cause friends of friends.
A graduate of Management from Covenant University, we could say she put her degree to good. She not only designs and tailors but also manages her brand and has successfully taken it to the stage it is in now. Her entry into the fashion scene was the dose that Nigerian fashion needed to come alive even more.
With crafty and almost architectural designs, Derin’s uniqueness and elegance sold her brand but not without the help of her favourite muses; Ini Dima-Okojie and Mimi Onalaja. Asides from her famous muses, other popular millennials who frequently rock her brand include Bolanle Olukanni, Dodos Uvieghara, Michelle Dede, Ozinna Anumudu and a bunch of others.
While dressing others up is the basis of her budding brand, Derin Fabikun is also a style star on her own ‘lane’, no pun intended. She enjoys dressing up in her aesthetically pleasing designs, some with feature frills and cut-outs others which lay towards droopy arms, lace attachments and mermaid details. It is safe to say since the designer looks fab, you would too if you were to try out pieces from the brand.
