With Robyn Rihanna Fenty, you never know what to expect. Recently she partnered with LMVH to release the Fenty Maison luxury line and in her interview with T Magazine, the new designer confirmed that the collection set to be released on the 29th of May will be as disruptive as possible.
And the disruption has started as Fenty Maison recently released its first ad which has women walking in front of backdrops showcasing various parts of the world. The second backdrop features our very own: the ever bustling city of Lagos. The video showed a typical busy street on Lagos Island with hundreds of hawkers and you can’t miss the yellow danfos and kekes.
For the collection, Rihanna is seemingly keeping things simple when it comes to colour as she is sticking to neutral tones of white, black, tan and some blush. However, you best believe, that there is nothing simple about the designs.
The collection will feature intricate leatherwork and meticulous techniques like boning – as she is putting a corset in a suit, a dress, a shirt, a denim jacket and a T-shirt dress.
The Fenty collection will be released every month and according to Rihanna: “The first single is really strong and edgy, compared to the drop right after, which is a little more feminine. But the first one, there are a lot of classic pieces as well.”
The Fenty Maison collection will be doing things a lot differently. According to the interview, “when Fenty.com goes live on May 29, it will be one of few luxury brands to commit fully to online sales: There are no plans for runway shows, flagship boutiques or third-party sales through department stores. New clothes will instead “drop” each month on the website, similar to the model pioneered by the streetwear brand, Supreme.” How cool is that? This means no more having to wait for months from the moment of seeing a collection to the moment when you actually own one.
The launch of Rihanna’s Fenty collection which took place on the 23rd of May also revealed that the brand’s products will be selling at considerably lower prices than other LVMH brands. If you’re looking to cop a thing or more, stay glued to the website as it opens on May 29. The brand will first be available in 14 countries, in Europe and the United States, and will open up to Asia by the end of the year. There’s no word yet on when the brand will deliver to the African market.
