Tems has made history as the first Nigerian artist to debut Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her feature on Future’s “Wait For U.” The track, which also features Drake, is Future’s second Hot 100 lead single, Drake’s 10th and Tems’ landmark No.1. Off Future’s album “I Never Liked You,” the single is one of the three Future tracks on the Hot 100’s top 10 this week, “Puffin on Zootiez,” at No. 4, “712PM,” at No. 8, and “I’m Dat N***a,” at No. 10.
In the music video for Wait For You released last week, Future experiences relationship issues in medieval times, and Drake rides a horse. Wait For U is one of two Future and Drake collaborations on I Never Liked You—the second is “I’m on One.”

With the 2022 Cannes Film Festival just around the corner, it has been revealed that Viola Davis is set to be honored with the Women In Motion Award at this year’s festival. Davis is being recognized “for her acting roles and her commitment to the rights of women and minorities,” according to a statement from the award organizers. It also noted that the “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” star is “one of the most influential American actresses and producers of her time.”
Prior to this announcement, Cannes also announced that veteran actor Forest Whitaker would be the recipient of the Honorary Palme d’Or award which recognizes individuals with a “sparkling artistic journey, a rare personality as well as a discreet but strong humanitarian commitment to key topical issues.” The 2022 Cannes Film Festival begins on Tuesday, May 17 and runs through Saturday, May 28 in Cannes, France.
3. South Africa: Actress Khabonina Qubeka launches online store for her wellness products

Khabonina Qubeka is on a mission to educate people about health and wellness as she gears up to launch her online store. The launch, which happened on May 7 at Parktown, Johannesburg, saw Qubeka unveil new products including scented soaps, tissue oils, gels, and mat bags. “I’m excited to grow in the business … Before people were buying sea moss from me and talking health and wellness, now my clients needed another way to access my products. Because these people would send direct messages on with enquiries, I decided to add a blog to it to keep people informed,” she said in a statement.
When Khabonina started hosting SABC1’s “Dijo Le Bophelo” show, she said she was introduced to a new world while interviewing doctors and dietitians who educated her about the food industry and led to her becoming vegetarian. Since then, Khabonina said, that transition made her want to help other people know more about health and their bodies. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Tshepong Stimulation Centre in Katlehong.

According to the BBC, the former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan picked up the ticket by proxy on Monday through a group of supporters said to be members of the Nomadic Herders and Almajiris Community in Nigeria. This is continuing the trend of aspirants using proxies to purchase the nomination form. His supposed decision to enter the race with the All Progressive Congress (APC) party has come off as a huge surprise to many Nigerians especially as it is not clear if he is a member of the APC.
For months, rumors had swirled over his secret defection to the ruling party but neither Jonathan nor his associates had commented. There has also been mounting pressure on him by different groups to run for the Presidency after his five-year tenure was ended with his defeat in the 2015 elections. Jonathan’s media representatives have however come out to debunk this saying that the former President was not aware of this bid and did not authorize it in any way. They however thanked Nigerians for the constant call back to power while firmly stating that Jonathan was not in any way committed to fulfilling their request.
Nigeria’s main political parties are expected to hold their primaries later this month to meet the election commission’s dateline of 3 June for the submission of their candidates for the February 2023 election. The APC ticket will be strongly contested by the likes of former Lagos state governor Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, and Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi among others.
5. Rohr: FIFA orders NFF to pay ex-Super Eagles coach $378,000

The Nigeria Football Federation has been asked to pay Gernot Rohr $380,000 in compensation for ending the German tactician’s contract early. Rohr was axed as Nigeria coach after five years in charge, with Augustine Eguavoen drafted in as an interim replacement. Before he was axed, the 68-year-old came under heavy criticism from Nigerians after the Super Eagles struggled but eventually advanced from Group C in the second round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
After that, the Franco-German went to FIFA to demand an additional sum for breach of contract. Although he had sought a total of £1m, he was granted $377,879.46 after a FIFA tribunal decided his claim was “partially accepted insofar as it is admissible.” The ruling also stated that the NFF would be sanctioned if the tactician was not paid in full within 45 days.
